What a veterinary website looks like when it is finished

A veterinary website exists to answer two questions an owner has at nine in the evening: is this an emergency, and what will it cost. That means a triage panel on the home page and a published price list, not a phone number and a photograph of a labrador. Shoal Creek Veterinary Clinic is a five-page site built around that. A build like it is $1,800 to set up and $249 a month.

The design direction, and why

Calm, clinical and warm, in that order. Deep teal and a lot of paper, a serif for the headings so the practice reads as established rather than as an app, and one amber accent reserved entirely for urgency. The photography is of animals with people in the frame, because an owner is not choosing a facility, they are choosing who will handle their cat. Nothing pulses, nothing floats, and nothing is red except the line about coming in now.

Four decisions that do the work

A veterinary site is read by somebody frightened, quickly, on a phone. These four decide whether they call.

The triage panel is the first thing on the page

Three columns: come now, call today, book this week, each with the symptoms that belong in it. It is the single most useful thing a clinic can publish, almost nobody publishes it, and it is what an AI assistant quotes when somebody describes a symptom to it.

The prices are published

Consultation, vaccinations, neutering by weight, dental, microchip, out-of-hours. Owners rarely ask, because asking feels like haggling over an animal. They just book the clinic that already told them.

Hours are structured data, not just text

Written into the markup as well as onto the page, so the hours Google shows are the hours the practice set. A wrong Sunday on a search result costs a full afternoon and nobody in the building ever finds out why.

Every vet has a name and something they are known for

Feline medicine, dentistry, exotics. An owner with a rabbit is looking for the one line on the site that says somebody here sees rabbits, and if it is not there they keep looking.

The five pages

Ordered by what a worried owner needs first, not by what a brochure would put first.

  1. HomeThe triage panel, today’s hours, the out-of-hours number, and the appointment request.
  2. Services and pricesWhat the clinic does and what each of it costs, including the wellness plan.
  3. Our teamThe vets and nurses, with faces and what each is known for.
  4. AdviceSix short pieces owners actually search for, each a page a search engine can read.
  5. BookAn appointment request that asks the species and the urgency, plus how to find the clinic and where to park.

The build, in numbers

Measured on the demo you can open, not on a similar site somewhere.

Questions people actually ask

How much does a veterinary website cost?

A site like this one is $1,800 to set up and $249 a month. The monthly covers hosting, SSL, backups, monitoring and two content changes a month, which for a clinic is usually the price list and the holiday hours.

Should a vet publish prices online?

Yes, at least for the routine work: consultation, vaccinations, neutering, dental and out-of-hours. Owners will not ring to ask, because asking about money over an animal feels shabby to them. They book whoever told them without being asked.

What should a veterinary website include?

A triage list saying what is an emergency, published prices for routine work, opening hours as structured data, the out-of-hours arrangement in plain words, every vet named with what they are known for, and an appointment request that asks the species and the urgency.

Can I see a vet clinic website example?

Shoal Creek Veterinary Clinic, linked on this page, is a complete build with the triage panel, the price list, the team and an appointment request. The practice is fictional; the site is a real build you can open and click through.
